About the Event
Welcome to our Central Asian Foods and Culture Summer Camp. Â We will be taking a look at a few integral countries that are a part of this region and we will expand out to the surrounding region also. We will look at the foods, agriculture, lifestyle, historic significance, and political and geographic history. Â Due to our focus being food, we will definitely spend more time cooking foods from these regions. Â
A lot of the foods include wheat, grains, meats which are some allergens or limitations. If your child is unable to eat these foods this might not work for them.  We cook all the food and eat together, so I encourage them not to bring any food from home so they can have this experience to try new food.  We will make most of the food, but at times supplement from local restaurants or bakeries. Please check out Gallery to see past camps.
Location: Near SDSU campus. I live in a quiet residential area and will send you the address after you have RSVP’d. The classes will be held outside and inside a covered patio area. Children will have access to a bathroom inside the house (please note allergies).  We will be using an outdoor camp stove, induction range, gas grill, kitchen aid mixer and food processor, grain mill, and will come indoors to use the oven if necessary.
Food: I use mostly local organic foods from nearby farmers. We have filtered water for the children to drink.
Meals: 5 meals + snack and occasional beverages provided
Materials: A booklet and all supplies will be provided for students to take notes and create their own journal
Craft: If we have time, we may pick up a small embroidery project and all materials will be provided
